Newcastle, Australia TransGrid Full time

At Transgrid, we play a crucial role in delivering safe, reliable, and sustainable energy to millions of Australians. Operating over 13,000 km of high-voltage transmission lines and 128 substations across NSW and the ACT, we connect electricity generators to the distribution network—powering homes, businesses, and communities.

As the energy sector evolves, we’re growing our workforce to drive innovation and transformation.

**The Opportunity**

This is more than a project role. It’s an opportunity to lead critical technical outcomes that will underpin the development of a resilient, renewable-powered transmission network. You’ll work at the intersection of engineering design, regulatory compliance, and strategic asset management, ensuring that the infrastructure we build today meets the needs of tomorrow.

**A Day in the Life as our Engineering Manager at Transgrid**

You will act as a key advisor to the Project Director and work closely with Senior Project Managers, Commercial Managers, internal engineering teams, contractors, and asset managers to ensure seamless technical integration across all phases of the project. With oversight of both design governance and asset interface coordination, your decisions will have direct impact on the long-term reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness of the network.

Your day may include:

- Leading end-to-end engineering integration across transmission line and substation design.
- Managing and reviewing pre/post-IFC designs to ensure compliance, quality, and alignment with regulatory frameworks.
- Facilitating workshops and technical review sessions to resolve interface issues between design, construction, and asset management teams.
- Supporting decision-making by balancing technical feasibility, risk, and commercial priorities.
- Overseeing design tracking, technical assessments, and completion readiness to support timely project delivery.

You’ll also play a visible leadership role within the team, mentoring engineers, fostering innovation, and embedding continuous improvement practices to enhance technical outcomes across the program.

**About You**

You are a collaborative, technically strong, and commercially minded engineering leader with experience delivering complex high-voltage infrastructure projects. You understand how to balance technical detail with strategic thinking, and you are comfortable leading within a matrixed environment.

**To Be Successful, You Will Have**:

- Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering
- Exceptional and tenured experience in high-voltage infrastructure design, construction, or asset management.
- Strong understanding of HV transmission line and substation design principles and practices.
- Proven experience managing engineering design activities in large, regulated infrastructure projects.
- Deep knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements, particularly the National Electricity Rules.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build alignment across diverse teams.

**Leadership at Transgrid**

At Transgrid, leadership goes beyond technical expertise. We expect our leaders to embody and promote our four key **Leadership Principles**:

- **Courage** - To challenge, own decisions, take measured risks, and embrace new ways of working.
- **Clarity** - Providing clear direction on purpose, goals, priorities, and accountabilities.
- **Connection** - Building strong relationships with our people, our strategy, our customers, and our partners.
- **Care** - Putting people first, fostering inclusion and wellbeing, and taking responsibility for our community and environment.

These principles shape how we lead, collaborate, and deliver value in everything we do. As Engineering Manager, you’ll play a critical role in role-modelling these behaviours and creating a culture of trust, performance, and innovation.

**Benefits & Perks**

At Transgrid, we empower our people with a well-rounded benefits package designed to support their personal, professional, and social well-being, helping them deliver their best work every day. Employees have access to a range of corporate discounts across retail, utilities, travel, health & wellbeing etc, as well as novated leasing options, workplace flexibility, 20 weeks paid parental leave and more.
