**About the team**

The Safety, Environment and Regulation (SER) division upholds safety and sustainability in our transport system. We’re working to deliver globally recognised, safe, sustainable transport for our people, customers and the community.

Within SER we have the Safety branch including the Road Safety Strategy and Policy Team. This team is responsible for the leadership of road safety policy and reforms based on robust evidence, best practice Safe System expertise and supported by up-to-date road safety laws and regulations that help to deliver NSW Government road safety targets.

The government’s 2026 Road Safety Action Plan features targets to halve deaths and reduce serious injuries by 30% on NSW roads by 2030. The Road Safety Policy team works with other teams across Transport and external stakeholders to deliver actions in the Plan.

**The opportunity**

A full-time permanent opportunity is on offer for a Policy Officer within the Road Safety Policy team in SER.

Reporting to Senior Manager Policy - Road Safety and supporting other senior staff in the team across a variety of projects, the role is responsible for assisting with the development, review and analysis of strategic and operational policy including, legislative instruments,, reports and submissions relating to road safety including vehicle, road and people safety in NSW.

It contributes to providing high quality policy advice on contentious and emerging issues and participates and contributes to project teams to develop and implementing evidenced based research and practice by leveraging stakeholder and community input and involvement.

**About you**

We are looking for an experienced Policy professionals with excellent organisational and prioritisation skills who are capable of performing a range of policy development activities, given competing demands and priorities, and the need to adapt and assimilate information quickly to ensure policy outcomes are achieved.

You will possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and sound stakeholder engagement skills as you will be working in multidisciplinary teams with a variety of stakeholders both internal and external to design and deliver road safety actions.

Your policy skills will enable you to analyse evidence and formulate advice and prepare a range of written documentation including correspondence, briefing notes, policy papers, reports and presentations.

Your skills in project management will support senior staff to design and implement project management plans to ensure projects are delivered to agreed requirements and timeframes.

You will possess:

- Relevant tertiary education or extensive relevant experience
- Demonstrated experience in policy development, implementation and review
- Ability to research, analyse and develop sound policy submissions and advice to enable informed decision making on road safety matters and prepare information for Ministerial, Cabinet or Departmental requests for information
- Collaboration and engagement skills to work with staff across the Centre for Road Safety and other teams and external stakeholders to contribute to policy development

With an office base in Macquarie Park, this team works in a hybrid model of working from home and in the office.

**Salary and Benefits**
