The Manager has responsibility for managing units supporting the implementation and review of environmental legislation and policy management; set regulatory standards and compliance frameworks; and educate and raise awareness of impacts, obligations and regulatory approaches. The Manager will also ensure the timely and lawful delivery of legislative assessments and approvals administered under legislation; deliver a proportionate, consistent and transparent compliance and enforcement framework that responds to issues that arise and work collaboratively across government and with industry and community groups, to monitor compliance, improve performance and reduce environmental risk.
Managers work closely with their Director to ensure there is effective two-way communication relating to service delivery, team performance and emerging issues of significance. They lead the provision of strategic advice to relevant areas of the and other government departments on resource sector matters including new policy or legislation as they relate to the business group and engage with a range of stakeholders and customers:

- Staff and managers within Environmental Services Division and other divisions within the department
- Other government departments, resource sector managers and directors, DES assessment staff
- Relevant external stakeholders and their consultants including industry peak bodies, individual companies, Gas Field Commission and community organisations
- Applicants for approvals, approval holders, the public and other advisors for significant, complex and/or sensitive matters.
