**The Role**
The Group Leader Project Analysis and Advice under broad guidelines is responsible for utilising S&T knowledge, skills and experience to meet the needs of key stakeholders. They will guide a complex area by providing the vision, direction and collaboration necessary to ensure that the capability of the group can be most effectively harnessed to deliver agreed outputs to DSTG and Defence.
They will provide effective supervision of staff in the Project Analysis and Advice team and create a motivating and collaborative culture within the team to ensure that all staff can make effective contributions. The Group Leader will be responsible for the development of staff in the team. The Group Leader will be able to understand stakeholder priorities and associated requirements, and transpose these into a well-planned set of work activities.
They will ensure that the team's resources are applied to agreed priority activities and will demonstrate flexibility to adjust the work plan as circumstances change. The Group Leader will manage the group’s resources to achieve task milestones, and will report work outcomes to stakeholders on a regular basis.
Under broad guidelines from the Chief Technology Officer S&T Capability, the Group Leader will work across Defence to support and assure the development of DST Group’s advice on Major Capital Equipment Programs and Projects. The Group Leader will also develop and maintain effective interactions with staff in the VCDF Group, Capability Managers, Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group and Contestability Division.
The Group Leader will:
- Provide advice to the Chief Defence Scientist and Chief Technology Officer S&T Capability on Major Capital Equipment Projects.
- Prepare and review briefings for CDS and other senior managers on S&T related aspects of capability proposals due for consideration by Defence Capability Committees.
- Support the preparation, review and assurance of Technology Risk Assessments (TRA’s), committee paperwork and Cabinet submissions in order to identify and clarify the key issues.
- Coordinate DST Group’s engagement in the Defence capability acquisition system and process.

The S&T Capability Branch delivers innovative policies, processes and tools to assure and demonstrate the value of Defence S&T, and to assure impartial science and technology advice to Defence and Government. The branch provides robust, transparent and contestable investment decision-making; coordinates classified S&T projects through the identification of game-changing technologies and provision of secure facilities; and enables DSTG to shape the acquisition of Defence technology and provide assured technology risk advice across the Integrated Investment Program
