**The Role**
The CryptoMathematics Specialist will be responsible for helping lead the group’s development of cryptography techniques and knowledge, as well as delivering solutions to Defence and National Security clients for cryptologic problems. You will need to have a significant depth of knowledge in a relevant area of mathematics, statistics or computing.

Duties and Key Result Areas

An Applied S&T Specialist in CryptoMathematics is required to undertake, with mínimal guidance and only broad direction, research into the theory and techniques behind the mathematical and cryptologic problems in cryptography.

The responsibilities will include:

- Lead and make a significant personal contribution to the research and development of cryptomathematics solutions to Defence problems.
- Provide advice to Defence on the theoretical and practical issues arising in the implementation of cryptography.
- Develop and maintain close relationships with clients, industry and academia, and use these relationships to develop collaborative partnering opportunities that complement DST capability.
- Share knowledge with colleagues and provide supervision and mentoring to the client and junior staff.

**About our Team**
The Cyber & Signals Intelligence (CSI) MSTC develops concepts, techniques and technologies for understanding cyberspace and the electromagnetic spectrum, supporting the intelligence and electronic surveillance needs of Defence. CSI MSTC collaborates with a wide range of research organisations both nationally and internationally. CSI is primarily located at the DST Edinburgh site, with a presence also in Canberra.
- A track record of delivering impactful research and client outcomes in the field of cryptomathematics.
- The ability to contribute strongly to, and participate in, a multi-disciplinary team in the research and development of practical concepts, tools and techniques in cryptomathematics.
- An ability to work on a number of concurrent tasks and to adapt to changes in research projects due to changes in priorities.
- The ability to inspire, collaborate, and communicate with influence (e.g. publications, presentations, mentoring, knowledge transfer).
- Clear and effective communication of research outcomes to technical and non-technical audiences.
