**The role:
Opportunity for a Material Handling Manager to join our team based in Garden Island. The purpose of the role is to manage the day to day operations of the material handling function within Thales Garden Island operations. You will manage and develop the M aterial H andling team in order to guarantee the safe and efficient execution of cranage activities, including customer satisfaction and internal performance. Other responsibility will be to implement and oversees the structure (organisation, employees and skills, investments, teaming, partnering, etc.) as defined by the Director of Production.

You will also be accountable for all activities to do with the management of the physical and related information flow. This includes the preparation, planning, and execution of cranage operations and relationship with Dock Master and DORSC Program Manager.

As a Material Handling Manager, you are accountable for:

- Correct allocation of resources prioritising projects to meet project deadlines in a safe manner
- Liaise with stakeholders to ensure project schedules are achievable and comply with HSE plans and requirements e.g. fatigue management guidelines.
- Authorisation to wor k is communicated to related stakeholders working toward a cost - effective outcome without increasing any risk
- Assess crane operator knowledge and skills
- Plan vs actual gap analysis and implement strategies
- Coach against best practise safety and crane opera tions
- Ensure all licences and verification of competency is reviewed and renewed in accordance with Worksafe guidelines and industry best practice
- Review crane operations processes to ensure alignment with current legislation and regulations
- Ensure SWMS an d any amendments are communicated and agreed before proceeding with work
- Manage overall performance of team and d evelop Key Performance Indicators for the Crane Crew
- Manage the material handling team following LEAN approaches and relevant ISO accreditation s.
- Liaise with Dock Master to ensure crane operations are operating efficiently
- Oversee the management of external crane operators
- Responsible for ensuring all plant and equipment utilised by the operators is in good working order by working with the DORSC Maintenance team.
- Willingness to work hands - on with the team to ensure safe and compliant work practic es are followed
- Ensure that workers are equipped with the information, instruction, training and supervision that they need to work safely.
- Identify, assess if necessary and control hazards within their area of responsibility.
- Encourage early reporting of incidents and assist with initiating an early return to work on suitable duties after a workplace injury
- Develop safe work procedures as required and ensure adherence to procedures.
- Act as a role model by demonstrating safe work behaviours

**How About you?**
- Demonstrated working experience in heavy industrial environments
- Familiar with marine practices, ship layout and technical interpretation advantageous
- Previous experience managing a team in a complex environment with multiple stakeholders
- Ability to communicate with various stakeholders both verbally and written
- Developing and Communicating JSA’s and Risk Assessments
- Problem solving and critical thinking

**Good to Know
International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) are applicable and as such, your nationality may be a factor in determining your suitability for this role.
