Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position(s) in the Western Sydney Local Health District. The position will be primarily located at Westmead Hospital within the Department of General Surgery.

Successful applicants will function as a junior consultant in the selection surgical unit and function as the bridge between the junior surgical staff and senior surgical leadership. It is expected that the successful applicant will manage the day-to-day junior surgical staff rostering and well-being provision.

Applicants expecting to be awarded fellowship within 3 months are eligible to apply.

The position will be for a period of 12 months commencing 3 February 2025 to 1 February 2026.

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.

**Essential Requirements**

1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license (if applicable)

2. Sound clinical knowledge in General Surgery demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.

3. Administrative services for the Junior Surgical staff at Westmead Hospital and WSLHD.

**Selection Criteria**

1. Qualifications and credentials required for core scope of practice in the Surgical specialty.

2. Evidence of additional qualifications, skills and/or experience required for specific scope of practice for the specialty.

3. Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:

- Proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.
- Excellent organisational, supervision and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships.
- Maintaining and developing knowledge, skills and professional performance to the level required for contemporary practice.
- Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and translation of research into practice to improve patient safety and quality.

4. Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources efficiently and contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of the health care system.

5. Demonstrated aptitude for clinical leadership which is evidenced by:
