Successful applicants will provide both inpatient and outpatient services at Westmead Hospital in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine and will be expected to participate in the on-call roster. The position has a special focus on provision of consultant services for Sleep Medicine and Respiratory Failure, including contributing to Sleep Laboratory Services. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the research and teaching programs of the Department, particularly for Sleep Medicine.
Respiratory and Sleep Medicine services are provided through inpatient and outpatient care at Westmead hospital. The Department has 10.6 FTE Staff Specialists delivering tertiary care across a range of clinical sub-specialties including: interventional bronchoscopy, sleep disorders service, respiratory function laboratory, and ambulatory clinics including general respiratory, respiratory failure, lung cancer, TB, COPD, ILD, cystic fibrosis, severe asthma and ambulatory pulmonary rehabilitation programs (RACS). Ambulatory services comprise a significant proportion of activity, including home ventilation services through ENABLE, RACS and integrated care programs. Preventive services include promotion of smoking reduction and TB screening. Respiratory and Sleep Medicine also takes clinical management responsibility for the Respiratory Close Observation Unit at Westmead Hospital (acute inpatient NIV).
The Fixed Term appointment will be for the period 2 November 2025 to 26 February 2028.
Selection Criteria
§ Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.
§ Evidence of additional qualifications, skills and/or experience required for specific scope of practice for the specialty
§ Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:
o Proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team.
o Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.

§ Demonstrated post-fellowship clinical and teaching expertise with a special focus on sleep medicine and respiratory failure.
§ Sound clinical knowledge in Sleep Medicine and Respiratory Failure as demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.
§ Record of demonstrated commitment to medical research, by possession of a PhD, MD, or Masters by Research (or working towards the same), together with an ongoing track record of achievement in respiratory research (eg in sleep medicine or other respiratory disorders), and aligned with the interests of the Department and Hospital.
