About the job

Mental Health Clinicians are committed, passionate mental health professionals providing assessment, planning and implementation services for recovery-oriented interventions at headspace Craigieburn.

Reporting to the Clinical Services Manager you will:

- Provide a comprehensive intake service to young people, community members and professionals seeking services, conducting initial engagement and assessment sessions.
- Deliver evidence-informed brief interventions, including group interventions, including the support of youth and family/carer participation at the centre.
- Conduct initial engagement and assessment sessions with young people and their families/carers, using the agreed headspace psycho-social assessment tool, including AOD screening and harm minimisation and risk assessment as required.
- Build and maintain collaborative working relationships within the service and with external providers, participating in the development and delivery of school and community based mental health awareness/ promotion activities as appropriate.
- Maintain a family inclusive approach to supporting young people and their families.

Skills and experience

The following criteria must be met for consideration for this position:

- Approved tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Mental Health Nursing). Must have full/provisional general registration with AHPRA or eligibility for AASW.
- Social workers must have/be eligible for mental health accreditation (2+ years FTE experience in mental health setting in last 5 years) and eligibility for membership with AASW.
- Have experience or knowledge of working with young people between 12 to 25 years of age, in the provision of mental health care, including an understanding of their developmental stages and transitions.
- Experience completing mental health assessments, shared decision-making, risk assessments, and crisis intervention/ safety planning; psychoeducation and short-term/ brief interventions
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills across diverse stakeholders, including a multi-disciplinary team, and First Nations, culturally diverse and LGBTQI+ backgrounds.
- Proficiency in clinical documentation and willing to engage in research and ongoing learning.
