The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Legal Policy Manager, in the Aboriginal Justice Group to provide a critical role in the Aboriginal Justice Policy Reform Unit.
**About the business unit**
The Aboriginal Justice group of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) is committed to driving systemic change in the justice system, to connect, support and deliver better outcomes for the Aboriginal community. The group works in partnership with Traditional Owners and the Victorian Aboriginal community to embed the principles of self-determination in the justice sector.
The Aboriginal Justice Policy Reform Unit (AJPRU) drives structural and systemic transformation and coordinates efforts across the department to improve justice outcomes for Aboriginal Victorians through policy development, legislative reform, and genuine commitment to self-determination. The AJPRU has primary responsibility for coordinating the delivery of the Aboriginal Justice group's law and policy reform agenda.
**About the role**
Within this role, you will be responsible for developing reform policy and/or legislation proposals and providing policy advice in relation to the Aboriginal Justice reform agenda
Some of your duties will include:
- Lead policy projects that drive systemic reform to improve outcomes for Aboriginal people in contact with the justice system.
- Have a demonstrated understanding of the Victorian Government's commitment to Aboriginal self-determination and be able to identify and deliver measurable outcomes that align with the overarching Aboriginal self-determination agenda.

**About you**
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Excellent knowledge of Aboriginal culture and society and understanding of historical and contemporary issues facing Stolen Generations and Aboriginal Victorians.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Aboriginal Community.
- Understanding of the legal context of the Stolen Generations Reparations Package.
- Proven record of expertise and achievement at a senior level, including successfully managing teams exposed to sensitive and/or confronting material, demonstrating leadership in collaborative environments, and working across teams and organisations to achieve outcomes.
