This Government Department is responsible for delivering policies and programmes that support the Australian Community. This program provides support to individuals who have experienced hardship and need assistance through providing counselling, case management and financial support. There is a current need for a high performing EL1 Assistant Directors with a strong emphasis on delivering a positive impact within the Australian community.

**Your new role**

The group manages and delivers whole of Department and Portfolio strategic activities and government support functions, working closely with the senior executive. The work of the Group is diverse delivering a range of strategic support, coordination, audit, and advice to senior executive on critical governance and processes that support the Minister, the Secretary and the Portfolio. We are looking for people who:

- Enjoy working on whole of department issues and projects identifying interdependencies to ensure that work is delivered in a connected way,
- Are confident working with senior executive and senior level stakeholders to provide advice and develop approaches to solve complex problems.
- Are able to work with a diverse range of senior stakeholders to draw together strategies and information.
- Are able to think strategically and work collaboratively.

While specific responsibilities will vary across different roles, these could include:

- leading a range of whole of department projects and functions, such as the Department’s performance statements, Corporate plan, annual report, ministerial and parliamentary and executive services
- building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders to support delivery of key projects and functions, including senior executives
- delivering high quality and timely guidance and advice to the department, Minister and portfolio bodies on parliamentary, ministerial, governance and appointment processes
- design, development and delivery of all aspects of reporting relating to various governance matters
- designing and leading capability uplift, including advice on governance, performance, risk and projects, training and other information materials
- providing strategic guidance and setting frameworks in line with relevant legislation to deliver on accountability requirements (such as the PGPA Act)
- leading the development of briefings, strategy papers and reports to deliver on the work plan and/or project plans in place
- leading research and analysis tasks across areas such as governance, risk and performance.

**What you'll need to succeed**
- leading and managing a small team, including determining and being accountable for the team’s objectives, priorities and task allocation, working flexibly in a high pressure environment while effectively managing change and uncertainty
- well-developed and professional written and oral communication
- internal and external stakeholder management at a senior level, fostering working relationships to achieve results and deliver on priorities
- public service professionalism and adherence to probity standards
- a personal commitment and demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for innovation, process improvement and reform
- relevant knowledge of and experience in corporate governance or ministerial and executive coordination
