**About the Role**

As a member of the Risk & Compliance leadership team the role works together by prioritising the success of peers and leader. This role ensures icare is accountable to its Board, CEO, external regulators, and stakeholders for its management of risk and its responses to issues requiring remediation.

**Duties**

It’s an exciting time at icare where no two days are the same; as a Head of Compliance you will:

- Support the General Manager Risk & Compliance in developing and maintaining a highly visible and respected compliance function across icare.
- Lead and develop a high performing Compliance team to develop and maintain a systematic compliance program for icare to meet its legal and regulatory obligations under various compliance notices and ensure regulatory compliance at a strategic and operational level.
- Support the General Manager Risk & Compliance and the Risk & Compliance team to influence and foster a risk and compliance aware culture across icare.
- Providing assurance support as SME to the Second Line Assurance team, including where required completing assurance activities.
- Providing quality control oversight over the risk and control environment, focusing on SME oversight and the provision of constructive advice and challenge of risk owners. (Critical activities include Risk profile review, development and reporting of appropriate metrics, review of supporting data etc)
- Lead a high performing Compliance team that has a clear vision, strategy and plan for building the overall compliance capability of icare; specifically, in relation to compliance with regulatory notices at an operational level.
- Engage with and foster key external relationships to keep abreast of compliance strategies in both the public and private sectors and ensure that best practice is appropriately integrated into a fit for purpose compliance approach for icare.
- Provide advice and support to assist the business in meeting compliance obligations.
- Develop strategies for, and actively manage, the compliance program that enables the organisation to meet its obligations under legislative and regulatory notices.
- Focus on compliance with regulatory notices under the State Insurance and Care Governance Act, workers compensation legislation or other legislation related to the scheme which are managed by icare.
- Work closely with the Legal team to ensure compliance with the regulatory notices are appropriate and have a legal basis and any applicable exemptions are properly applied.
- Work closely with any external providers to ensure appropriate support is provided by the external provider in meeting icare’s regulatory and legal obligations, including overseeing the performance and service standards of the external providers.
- Bring a commercial mindset and proactive management approach to reducing the number and severity of incidents, and reducing the reliance on the Legal team and external providers.
- Conduct investigations into areas of non-compliance, where required, and provide advice to the business on improvement opportunities.
- Nominated as Principal Privacy Officer for the purposes of the PPIP Act and related Regulations.

**Skills & Experience**
- Tertiary qualifications in business, commerce, finance, law, economic or other relevant business discipline.
- Well-developed understanding of compliance procedures and standards.
- Demonstrated experience as a senior influencer in Insurance, Banking or Finance.
- Demonstrated experience in the Australian regulatory environment. Experience in government is preferred.
- Experience in executing on regulatory compliance notices, is preferred.
- Address problems in the work environment and develop and implement action plans.
- Ensure decisions are based on evidence, but when necessarily make effective judgments under pressure.
- Make decisions within the level of financial and administrative delegation assigned to the role and within corporate / government / legislative protocols.
- Significant experience in a governance, risk management or compliance role within an insurance, corporate or commercially driven public sector environment.
- Experience in compliance roles with a regulatory response focus, preferably in government.
- Extensive successful experience building rapport and influence at all levels of an organization.
- Experience in a role operating in a fast-paced environment with significant competing priorities, a decentralised leadership model
