About the Role

We are looking for two graduates to join our Commercial Analytics team, this is a fantastic opportunity to work within Load Forecasting and Wholesale Pricing.

The Commercial Analytics team is a critical part of the Integrated Portfolio Planning business unit, providing key load forecasting, wholesale pricing and technology delivery expertise. The team develops systems, models, reports and processes in order to assist Trading to actively manage AGL’s wholesale portfolio and wholesale products and pricing for our Commercial customers and Customer Markets Business Unit.

In Load Forecasting, the Graduate Analyst will contribute to the development of market analysis, research, and insights, enabling the building and continuous improvement of Wholesale Market’s gas and electricity load forecasting capability, while supporting high-quality trading and commercial decision making.

In Wholesale Pricing, the Graduate Analyst will work with a highly skilled team that is responsible for the development and maintenance of wholesale pricing and products for Commercial and Residential segments. The team is central to managing AGL’s significant financial risk and strategy in the energy markets.

What you’ll be doing:
The Graduate Analyst will have the opportunity to both learn on-the-job with a highly skilled team and add value through:

- Delivery of commercial analysis that improves decision making, supporting the creation of wholesale pricing and products, and improving the quality and consistency of load forecasting customer demand
- Contributing to the ongoing enhancement of AGL’s Commercial Analytics capability, through continuous improvement in the design, development, testing and implementation of AGL’s in-house wholesale pricing and load forecasting analytics systems
- Working on complex business and industry problems to identify and evaluate solutions for AGL, our customers and the communities that we operate in
- Working with a large cross-functional group of stakeholders across AGL to model market risks that support trading decisions.

About You

What you’ll bring to the table:

- Interest in the Australian Energy Landscape and learning about the energy transition from within one of Australia’s key energy leaders
- This is an entry-level role for a graduate of a tertiary qualification in a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Operations Research, Engineering, or Science
- Excellent numeracy and analytical skills, including a sound grasp of the concepts of statistics and probability. A passion for forecasting, statistics, data analysis, IT, or commercial, mathematical or econometric modelling will be well regarded
- Communicating clearly and transparently the relevant features and assumptions of the analysis with team members and seeking and being receptive to feedback
- Exposure to common analytics programming languages with an aptitude to learn, such as SQL, Python, R, Matlab, will be well regarded
- Creative problem solving and inquisitive mind, enthusiastic to learn
