**About the department**:
Austin Health is a tertiary teaching hospital. The Department of Paediatrics is part of the Medical Services Division. The Inpatient Paediatric Ward on 2 West is a 16 bed unit comprising medical and surgical patients. Medical patients have general paediatric, endocrine, epilepsy, and eating disorders. Surgical patients have ENT, orthopaedics, plastics, ophthalmology and maxillofacial surgery. The Department of Paediatrics has a role in undergraduate teaching and is closely affiliated with the University of Melbourne. General paediatrics is a broad based multidisciplinary specialty, which provides expert diagnosis, treatment and care for infants, children and young people aged up to 19 years.
**About the role**:
Paediatric endocrinologists are expected to provide high level Endocrinology services within their approved scope of clinical practice as part of the Paediatric team at Austin Health to children and adolescents aged 0-18 years. All Endocrinologists are expected to be able to provide routine specialist Endocrinology services however the focus of the role is the management of Diabetes Mellitus. Limited on call coverage may be required but is not considered a regular requirement of this role.
This is a senior Medical Position and carries with it the professional responsibilities of clinical leadership, teaching and training as well as administrative requirements. The position reports to the Director of Paediatrics.

As a Paediatric Endocrinologist you will be responsible for attending weekly outpatient clinics including paediatric diabetes clinic and young adult/adolescent diabetes clinic, inpatient diabetes stabilisation admissions, providing telephone advice to the emergency department regarding acute diabetic ketoacidosis and other endocrine presentations, inpatient acute admissions such as Diabetic Ketoacidosis and new presentations, inpatient and outpatient paediatric endocrine consultation service
**To be successful for this role you must**:
- Be a registered Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Hold a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), or equivalent
- Have appropriate training and experience applicable to the field of Paediatric Endocrinology
- Demonstrate a commitment to high quality patient care
- Demonstrate a commitment to working as a team member with peer medical, junior medical, nursing and other clinical staff to provide efficient, safe and quality care across the continuum, and
- Demonstrate a commitment to teaching, training and research.
