The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Manager to fill a vital role within the Aboriginal Workforce unit.
**About the Business Unit**
The Aboriginal Workforce Unit (AWU) sits within the Aboriginal Justice Group and is responsible for the development and delivery of the department's Aboriginal Workforce Strategy 2024-2027 and associated talent programs. The AWU provides ongoing support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (Aboriginal) employees and manages a range of Aboriginal employment initiatives. The AWU contributes towards the innovation of new programs and policies to strengthen career development, cultural diversity and inclusion across the department.

**About the Role**
As the Manager of the AWU, you will be responsible for initiatives to support and achieve the department's employment and retention targets for Aboriginal people. You will build and maintain strong relationships across the Aboriginal Justice Group, the People Safety Culture and Communications Group, the department and the broader VPS. Your efforts will enhance and strengthen the cultural competence of the department by implementing strategies that support a culturally safe and inclusive workplace. You will drive the delivery of the Aboriginal Workforce Strategy 2024-2027 to ensure successful management and delivery of key employment programs including graduate recruitment and retention, youth employment and Aboriginal employment pathways. You will work closely with the Senior Aboriginal Talent Partner in the delivery and implementation of a number of Aboriginal recruitment initiatives.
Specifically, some of your duties will include:
- Develop, lead and manage Aboriginal-specific employment programs and initiatives across the department.
- Deliver initiatives across the department which support capacity building within leadership and management for supporting and developing Aboriginal staff.
- Establish and oversee monitoring strategies to ensure that programs, policies and the workplace environment are culturally inclusive and competent.
- Build highly effective working relationships and collaborate across the department, VPS and externally to ensure Aboriginal employment targets are met.
- Provide advice on Aboriginal cultural issues, and the impact of policies, programs and employment-related legislation on Aboriginal communities.
- Build and manage strong relationships within key Aboriginal community organisations and relevant bodies.
- Establish reporting systems for the Aboriginal Workforce Unit and prepare and present high-level strategic reports at executive level.

**About you**
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Extensive knowledge of Aboriginal culture and society and understanding of historical and contemporary issues relating to Aboriginal Victorians.
- Proven resource and people management skills, including demonstrated ability to build effective high-performing teams and to successfully lead change.
- Strong knowledge of, and demonstrated experience, working with Aboriginal communities and advisory groups, including sophisticated and culturally aware stakeholder engagement.
- Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of employment and/or policy strategies.
**Qualifications/requirements**
For Aboriginal Designated and Prioritised positions, a Certificate of Aboriginality (CoA) will be required prior to an offer of employment being made.
