**Position Information**:
Austral Public School is located in a rapidly growing area of Southwest Sydney, which is currently undergoing redevelopment. The school supports a community which is increasingly diverse in socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. There are currently 721 students enrolled in 28 classes with 32 classes projected for the start of the 2025 school year. In 2025, the school is expecting a significant growth with an anticipated enrolment of 785 students at the start of the year.
79% of students are from non-English speaking backgrounds, with the largest representation of language groups from the Arabic, Bengali, Indian, Nepalese and Pakistani communities. The Italian language, heritage and culture are fostered through our Italian community language program and 4.5% of our students are Aboriginal. We see a consistently growing need to support our students and their families who have language backgrounds other than English. Our Language Background other than English (LBOTE) representation is 85.9%.
There is a strong culture of quality teaching through continuous reflection and high-quality professional learning. The teaching staff reflects a balance of experienced and newly appointed teachers, and we are committed to ensuring that the current methods of best practice, quality teaching and high expectations are embedded in all classes.
Austral Public School is supported by an active Parents and Citizens Association who are involved in decision making, assist in implementing school programs and fund raise to improve facilities and support school initiatives.
**Selection Criteria**:
In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary,
1. An inspiring leader with the emotional intelligence and organisational skills to balance the dual role of an exemplary classroom teacher and Assistant Principal, working with teachers of varying experience.
2. Demonstrated expert curriculum knowledge and explicit teaching practices to lead the implementation of data driven high-quality literacy and numeracy programs.
3. Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work as part of a dynamic leadership team, strategically planning and leading initiatives to drive continuous whole school improvement.
4. An approachable leader who can connect with the whole school community and lead by example to foster a positive school culture and enhance wellbeing for all stakeholders.
**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
- 2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs- 3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams- 4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents- 5.
