The All Ages Camp Leader is key in ensuring a successful and engaging camp experience by providing effective guidance across a range of functions and/or programs, and is responsible for supervising, managing and motivating team members. This role will be the contact point for all team members, proactively ensuring a smooth activities and effective collaboration.
- Key responsibilities:
Day to day activities:
- Using initiative and enthusiasm, oversee practicalities of day-to-day operation which may include set up rooms and pack up on completion, creating and selecting audio-visual media for activities, or attending excursions with team, participation in small groups, dorm devotions and large meetings, as well as providing support to the Children’s Secretary.
Supporting others:
- Whilst actively supporting the welfare of campers, Camp Leaders are to guide and lead a balanced culture of open communication and spiritual inspiration whilst always maintaining confidentiality of campers and team.
- Contribute to creating a positive and caring atmosphere for all campers so they feel welcome and keen to return.
- Support team members by inviting and listening to feedback and resolve any issues or conflicts, and recognise high performance and reward accomplishments.
Work safely:
- Camp Leaders are expected to ensure all people and the workplace are safe, by abiding by safe work practices and The Salvation Army’s child safe policies and code of conduct.
- Qualifications and skills (desired/required):
- Desire to explore leadership development, particularly in leading young people- Experience in leading others is highly regarded- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Background check requirements:
Background checks play an important part in our commitment to being a safe organisation. Where an applicant has disclosable history, the selection process includes a fair assessment and a risk management approach. Collection of personal information is handled per our privacy and confidentiality policies. Below is what is required for this role:
- As this role is a child-related role, it requires a Working with Children Check/Working with Vulnerable People Check- As this role involves dealing with confidential information, it requires a Police Check

- Development opportunities with this role:
This role will give volunteers an opportunity to develop skills and build experience in leading young people, group facilitation, event organisation and spiritual development.
- The Salvation Army is a child safe organisation and is committed to protecting children and young people from harm. All child related roles will require the successful completion of a Working with Children Check. _Additionally, certain volunteer roles may require a National Police Check._
