About the role

We are looking for a Program Officer who is passionate about making services and systems more human centred as well as being focused on elevating the voices of those with lived experience to inform the development of solutions. If this is you, come join us and help drive the start-up of System 2; a new not-for-profit organisation. System 2’s mission is to tackle the most complex social problems through an understanding of human behaviour - starting with supporting young Australians in disadvantage to thrive. As part of the launch team with the Executive Officer, you will have the opportunity to shape the design and growth of a new organisation, while being part of a global group that includes the world’s leading behavioural science organisation, The Behavioural Insights Team (BIT) and NESTA an independent, social innovation charity.

Responsibilities of the Program Officer

As a Program Officer for System 2, you will be responsible for the following outcomes
- Excellence in project delivery. You will manage and deliver discrete project tasks - for example coordinate and conduct interviews, focus groups and other qualitative research methods; and help prepare presentations and reports.
- Efficient project coordination that contributes positively to project outcomes. You will be responsible for making sure that all of System 2’s projects are delivered on time & on budget, through contract & budget management. Alongside this you will also need to coordinate meetings, fieldwork and events.
- Authentic collaboration with young people and families that improves impact. You will be responsible for developing effective methods for collaboration and codesign with young people and families.
- Effective partnerships. You will help manage communication, workflow and project coordination with partners for successful project completion and also to build long-term partnerships in the sector.

We would love to hear from you if you have experience in any of the following areas:

- Working with young people and families from disadvantaged backgrounds. This could be in a front line delivery (e.g. case worker) or supporting role (e.g. project officer).
- Building effective partnerships with suppliers, partners and/or funders in the NFP sector.
- Experience managing budgets.
- Experience taking ownership of and managing discrete project tasks on time and within budget.
- Experience coordinating and conducting interviews, focus groups and other qualitative research methods.

As System 2 is a start-up, the organisation will be pretty lean for the first 12 months, but you won’t be alone. You will work with the Executive Officer with direction from the Board, and be part of a collaboration of behavioural science experts, delivery partners, academics, other intermediaries and funding partners.
