**Who are we**:
With the enactment of the Water Act 2007 (Cth), the Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) was established as an independent expertise-based statutory agency.

For the first time in the Basin's history, one Basin-wide institution is responsible for planning the Basin's water resources, with all planning decisions made in the interest of the Basin as a whole.

Our most important work is to:

- prepare, implement and review an integrated plan for the sustainable use of the Basin's water resources
- operate the River Murray system and efficiently deliver water to users on behalf of partner governments
- measure, monitor and record the quality and quantity of the Basin's water resources
- supporting, encourage and conduct research and investigations about the Basin's water resources and dependent ecosystems
- advise the Australian Government Minister responsible for water on the accreditation of state water resource plans
- provide water rights information to facilitate water trading across the Basin
- engage and educate the Australian community about the Basin's water resources.

**In this role you will**:

- Work alongside the Chief Financial Officer to provide strategic direction of the MDBA Finance function.
- Oversee and lead the management of the financial accounting team, taking responsibility for coordinating and facilitating team performance, setting, monitoring, and achieving outcomes and work priorities.
- Deliver strategic advice and provide insight on the overall financial position and forecast financial outlook for the MDBA.
- Be responsible for influencing and developing strategy, policies, priorities, and operational practices in support of the Finance team.
- Interpret budget management, maintenance and forecast reports to provide strategic advice to the senior executive team.
- Oversee and provide quality assurance for the preparation briefings and reporting materials for the senior executive, and relevant internal and external stakeholders.
- Attend and assist in the management of internal audit committees, sub-committees and other financial reporting functions including the presentation of such reports to the agencies board and executive group, where directed by the CFO.
- Oversee and prepare a range of written material including business cases, Cabinet submissions, Senate Estimate submissions, Ministerial and agency briefs, and corporate documentation.
- Design, manage, and deliver financial compliance communications, advice, and training to internal stakeholders.
- Represent the Finance team alongside the CFO across the MDBA and effectively manage internal and external stakeholder relationships.
- Be responsible for maintaining awareness of current developments in the field of management accounting in government, anticipating the impact on the work area, and implementing changes in response to developments.
