**About us**
The Independent Liquor & Gaming Authority (ILGA) is a statutory decision-maker responsible for a range of liquor, registered club and gaming machine regulatory functions including determining licensing and disciplinary matters under the gaming and liquor legislation.
ILGA takes a risk-based approach to discharging its functions. This means that ILGA will refer to the statutory objects and specific statutory criteria for making decisions set out in the liquor and gaming legislation. ILGA will also consider relevant liquor and gaming related research and evidence, including crime, demographic and health statistics.

**About the role**
The Chairperson leads and governs the ILGA, representing the vision and purpose of the ILGA and chairing the ILGA Board which is responsible for providing statutory decision making for a range of liquor, registered club and gaming machine regulatory functions including determining licensing and disciplinary matters under the gaming and liquor legislation.
The Members provide expert advice and decision-making to the ILGA and engage and actively participate in Board meetings to ensure that all relevant matters are discussed and that effective decisions are made and carried out.
**About you**
To be successful in one of these roles, you will have strong knowledge and understanding of regulatory frameworks. Experience in disciplines which assist ILGA in discharging its statutory functions, such as law, public health, research, crime statistics and harm-minimisation will be highly regarded. You will have extensive experience in facilitating sensitive deliberations that involve stakeholder groups with strong and opposing views in a complex and highly contested environment. Your experience in balancing competing interests and demands will be crucial to your success in this role.
At least one of the Member of the ILGA must be a person who is or has been a judge or has been an Australian lawyer of at least seven years.
Other members will be required to have expertise or experience one or more of the following:
- regulation of financial crime
- law enforcement relating to financial crime
- accounting, or
- corporate governance.
