Inspector of Detention Services

The Inspector of Detention Services Act 2021 seeks to promote improvement of detention services and places of detention. The focus of the Inspector will be on the prevention of harm rather than responding to complaints when harm occurs.
The IDS Act provides that the position of Inspector will be held by the Queensland Ombudsman, with staff from the Office of the Queensland Ombudsman supporting the Inspector's functions.
Expertise from a wide range of areas may be relevant to the Inspector's work including (but not limited to): policy writing and standards development; audit, assessment investigation and evaluation; community liaison and engagement; research and report-writing.
The Inspector respects and values the skills and insights of people diverse in gender, culture, age, life stage, sexual orientation and disability. EOIs are encouraged from people from all diversity groups, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders peoples.
EOIs will remain in the talent pool for a period of 12 months. Opportunities may commence at different times over that period.
