Principal Inspection Officers support the Queensland Ombudsman and Inspector of Detention Services' role of promoting the improvement of detention services and places of detention.
In this role, you lead a team of officers responsible for inspecting places of detention and preparing reports for the Queensland Parliament. This work involves planning inspections, reviewing materials and preparing reports. Proven ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders, including First Nations peoples and other relevant stakeholder groups, is required.
You will visit places of detention (including prisons, youth detention centres and watch-houses) and have face-to-face interactions with child and adult detainees.
These are new roles. Principal Inspection Officers may come from a variety of professional backgrounds. Relevant expertise and knowledge may have been gained through areas of experience, such as: youth justice, corrections, community services, legal services, investigations and public administration.
You will be required to travel to places of detention and this may include remote and regional locations with consecutive days away from the metropolitan area. Travel and work may be required outside normal working hours, including weekends and at night.
