Busway Safety Officer

**Accountabilities include**:
Busway Monitoring and Incident Management
- Takes a lead role in the management of incidents (including critical incidents) on the busway either on the ground or from the Busway Operation Centre (BOC) including:
- Assessing the priority of incidents in the event of multiple events.
- Determining the appropriate critical incident response to maximise health and safety of all persons and minimise disruptions on the network.
- Implementing required emergency plans and being a key contact for emergency services that attend an incident.
- Operating a range of systems within the control room including the Building Management System, signage and tunnel management via SCADA, and other IT-based controls.
- Liaising and negotiating with Bus Service Providers to develop work around processes during emergencies and bus breakdowns.
- Implement traffic diversion processes and traffic control, basic asset protection and maintenance reviews.
- Operate computer-based technologies including a sophisticated CCTV monitoring system to manage safety, security and fire detection, prevention and response.
- Proactively respond to anything that may interfere with safety or services during regular patrols on the network.
- Provide information to management and other stakeholders through; creation and maintenance of incident logs, production of reports utilising integrated computer systems and manual information systems, preparation of daily reports.
Contractor Management
- Perform regular contractor safety inductions for a range of different contractors that enter the busway.
- Act as a key contact for contractors required to access the busways to perform works.
- Log contractors in and monitor their actions on site to ensure compliance with their traffic control plans and safe work method statements as well as busway rules and any conditions set for the work being performed (such as access times) and escalate issues if required.
- Check that work has been completed (within their competencies) and maintain a database log of the details.
Customer Experience
- Educate passengers travelling on the SEQ bus network by providing timely information about busway station rules and general information at stations including scheduling and/or service delays.
- Provide front-line customer service to passengers travelling on the network and/or using busway facilities.
- Participate in special events that impact the busway such as Riverfire, New Year's Eve and sporting/cultural events.
- Actively promote a positive image of public transport, Translink, the Department of Transport and Main Roads, and the Queensland Government at all times.
- Provide a high standard of customer service by seeking to understand our customers and their individual needs and treating every customer with respect and courtesy.
- Provide appropriate information and assistance to those that may require additional support to access our network.
Safety
- Monitor and proactively manage passenger safety on the busway by:
- Assessing the priority of incidents and deploying internal and external resources as required.
- Assuming the role of Fire Warden during evacuation of King George Square facilities.
- Providing first aid in medical emergencies.
- Conduct routine security and maintenance checks in addition to adhoc works, for example: installing information posters, removal of litter on platforms.
- Seeking to continually improve safety for yourself, other employees and customers by reporting all hazards and incidents and ensuring risks are managed appropriately.
- Other accountabilities and tasks as reasonably directed.
The team of Busway Safety Officers monitors 30km of busway 24/7 by performing regular patrols and viewing over 750 CCTV security cameras to keep people safe and keep them moving. Busway Safety Officers live our values every day by placing customers first. You will enhance the customer experience by directly assisting members of the public and service providers and ensuring their safety through the prevention and effective management of incidents.
