**About the role**

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced **Sustainable Animal Care Manager** to lead the dairy industry's efforts in Pillar 3 (Providing best care for animals) of the Australian Dairy Industry Sustainability Framework (ADSF).

This role provides industry leadership in driving the development and implementation of the dairy industry’s policies, priorities and objectives in relation to animal care.

Main Accountabilities will include:
Pillar 3 (Providing best care for animals) program coordination and leadership:

- Monitor and review the commitments and targets under Pillar 3 of the ADSF, ensuring their relevance and feasibility in the current context.
- Identify new and emerging issues related to Pillar 3, addressing gaps in the industry's work program to safeguard the future sustainability of the dairy industry.
- Manage and oversee the delivery of the Animal Husbandry Survey and associated communications, providing vital insights for policy and program development.
- Coordinate a collaborative program of work involving both DA and the broader dairy industry, aligning efforts to meet industry commitments.

Technical Policy Support:

- Provide technical policy support, in collaboration with the Policy Lead - Animal Health & Welfare, to industry and government on issues linked to Pillar 3 of the ADSF. This includes topics such as animal disease preparedness, biosecurity, animal health, supply chain initiatives, and more.
- Lead the development of dairy industry policy submissions related to Pillar 3 priorities, ensuring the industry is strongly represented in relevant discussions with a robust evidence base.
- Ensure that the policy development processes are synchronized with the targets and commitments within the Australian Dairy Industry Sustainability Framework.
- Address the technical information needs of dairy industry representative bodies, including ADF, SDFO, and ADPF, in their policy development processes.

Industry and Government Engagement:

- Expand DA's global and domestic networks within the animal care portfolio, representing the dairy industry on international, national, and state forums and committees.
- Engage with organizations such as Animal Health Australia, Safemeat, International Dairy Federation, and the World Organisation for Animal Health.
- Contribute to the development of dairy industry positions in government legislative reform processes related to animal health, welfare, and biosecurity.
- Implement the Dairy Industry Issues Management Framework, providing valuable insights into emerging issues and threats in the animal care portfolio and taking leadership on relevant issue responses when necessary.

**Skills and experience**
- A degree in a relevant field, such as agriculture, animal science, or related disciplines.
- Demonstrated experience in managing sustainability or animal care programs.
- Stong policy development and advocacy skills.
- Excellent communication and networking abilities.
- A deep commitment to animal welfare and sustainability.
- Knowledge of the Australian dairy industry and its sustainability framework is a plus.
