As the **Manager of Power System Operations**, you will have the unique opportunity to lead, manage, and develop the capability of Powerlink’s Power System Operations team. This team sits at the heart of our Operations Service Delivery division and is responsible for the safe, secure, and reliable 24/7/365 Realtime power system operations services for Queensland’s Transmission System.
You will be at the forefront of driving the Queensland Energy Transformation towards a decarbonised, highly renewable power system. You will be a key stakeholder and beneficiary of Next Generation Network Operations deliverables, such as a new Outage Management System and a new Advanced Energy Management System, coupled with other enabling technology solutions.
Your leadership will be instrumental in building the team's capability, creating new ways of working, and fostering a collaborative and innovative environment working with other Real Time Network Operations leaders and teams. Additionally, your role will be a driving force working to deliver Queensland's energy transformation.
**Your key responsibilities will include**:
- Leading real-time operations to monitor the HV transmission network, manage abnormal conditions, and ensure compliance with NER and AEMO guidelines.
- Managing resources, setting priorities, overseeing restoration processes, and ensuring the team can monitor transmission procedures and coordinate switching requirements.
- Providing expert advice on SAHVEA development, guiding safe access to electrical plant, and conducting network analysis studies to ensure compliance with NEM requirements.
- Overseeing reporting of forced outages, developing outage documents, and leading investigations and root cause analysis to promote organisational learning.
Please note: There is a requirement for this position to participate in an on-call roster.
**The community you will join**:
Based in Brisbane at our Virginia office, you will report to the General Manager of Network Operations. You will lead a team of 6 direct and 40 indirect reports, including Network Access Team Leaders, Power System Operations Team Leaders, and Technical Writers. This experienced team is dedicated to 24/7 real-time monitoring, ensuring the continuous and safe operation of the Powerlink transmission network.
**Your expertise**
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, with considerable experience within power system operations; or lesser qualification coupled with significant experience within power system operations.
**We'd also love you to have**:
- Postgraduate qualifications in Electrical Engineering and/or Business Management are advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to operate and manage a 24/7 control centre operational environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a team of technical professionals.
- Demonstrated ability to conceptualise transmission outcomes within a market-based environment and influence outcomes.
