**About the role**
There are four (4) Critical Care HMO positions. The year comprises of the following rotations:
Two six week blocks of anaesthetics at Williamstown, one in the first 6 months of the year and the other in the second 6 months. Occasionally the theatres at Williamstown are closed, in which case the resident is rotated to Footscray or Sunshine campuses.
Two six week blocks of nights/relieving. The nights are generally covering Williamstown Hospital. There is no after-hours operating at Williamstown, so the night shift involves cover of a medical and surgical ward. The relieving blocks can cover any campus of Western Health.
Three months ICU at Footscray - 12 bed Intensive Care Unit. Given the location and demographics of Footscray, there are often some very interesting medical and surgical cases in our ICU.
Three months Emergency Medicine at Footscray campus.
The selection process for these positions is highly competitive. The positions are awarded on the basis of CV, references and interview. As Western Health only interviews up to one fifth of applicants for the position, it is important that applicants highlight on their CV all relevant clinical experience, courses, academic awards/honours, research experience, philanthropic work and other hospital involvement. Everyone receiving an interview will be required to provide evidence of all items on their CV.
Although the Critical Care HMOs will always be rostered with a consultant during their anaesthetic rotation, we are keen to see the successful applicants step up and take on a junior registrar approach to their work. For this reason, professionalism, initiative, willingness to learn and reliability are paramount.
