**The Role**
The Group WHS Officer key functions include:
- Developing insights and WHS initiatives by analysing incidents and interpreting trend and performance data
- Developing, consulting, advising and communicating effective responses to complex WHS issues
- Developing, innovating, managing and monitoring updates to a WHS Management System
- Providing secretariat functions for the JCG Safety Boards including coordinating and developing briefing papers
- Preparing briefing packs and verbal briefs to support Senior Leaders attendance at the Defence WHS Safety Board, and
- Engaging with stakeholders across the whole of Defence and with external regulatory bodies
- Planning and coordinating WHS Audit and Training programs across Australia, including contract and budget related activities, and
- Contributing to the wider Defence WHS policies.
**About our Team**
The WHS team directly supports the Chief of Joint Capabilities Group (CJC) as an officer under the WHS Act 2011 (Commonwealth). The APS 6 WHS officer position sits within the WHS team in Joint Capabilities Group Headquarters (JCG HQ) and is responsible for work health and safety governance activities for JCG across Australia.
The WHS team role includes:
- Developing, innovating and managing updates to the JCG WHS Management System
- Providing advice and monitoring implementation of the WHS Management System
- Reporting on compliance and performance of the WHS Management Systems
- Analysing incidents and trends to provide insights and initiatives to CJC
- Coordinating and monitoring interactions with the WHS Regulator, Comcare
- Building strong relationships with key stakeholders across JCG and Defence
- Planning and coordinating WHS Audit and Training programs across Australia, including contract and budget related activities, and
- Contributing to the wider Defence WHS policies.
In this role, the WHS Governance Officer will preferably have demonstrated abilities in the following areas:
- Collaborating with and influencing internal and external stakeholders, including senior leaders and regulators
- Drawing appropriate insights from data, reports and analysis
- Planning and prioritising work to tight deadlines and monitoring implementation of the work
- Well-developed writing skills including briefs, reports, papers
- A good working knowledge of Work Health and Safety legislation and practices
- Teamwork, and
- Representing a WHS team at WHS related conversations, training and forums
