About us
Corrections Victoria (CV) understands that to reduce the over representation of Aboriginal people in the justice system and to achieve a reduction in the rate of reoffending, unique strategies and initiatives must be implemented. Through its long-standing commitment to the Aboriginal Justice Agreement, the Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing Plan, the Koori Inclusion Action Plan and in partnership with the Victorian Aboriginal community, CV has developed this unique Aboriginal Case Manager role.
About the role
The Aboriginal Case Manager will be responsible for managing a case load with a majority of Aboriginal offenders with a range of order requirements aimed at reducing the risk of reoffending through conducting risk assessments, preparing case plans, providing interventions and addressing the underlying causes of offending, whilst directing and monitoring compliance with court order obligations.
The unique purpose of this role is that it will be responsible for developing and implementing cultural support plans for Aboriginal offenders and working with Aboriginal justice networks to identify appropriate support to strengthen case management for Aboriginal offenders.
**To be successful in this role you will**:
- have knowledge of case management processes and frameworks
- have the ability to develop relationships with Aboriginal organisations and other organisations that support and strengthen the case management process. have the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Aboriginal Community
- have knowledge and an understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal community and the social and cultural issues which impacting upon it.
- have knowledge and experience to provide strong personal guidance and advice, and have the ability to negotiate from a position of strength
