We're looking for a conscientious and diligent coffee professional to join our small team as a Coffee Roaster. From roasting, packing, picking and delivering orders, through to cupping, cleaning, and maintaining equipment, this is a full-stack, hands-on roastery position just waiting for the right person.

Fieldwork Coffee is a small-scale, quality-focused and future-minded coffee roaster located in Melbourne. We strive to source the world’s best coffees and share them with our webshop and wholesale customers around Australia and overseas. In doing so, we hope to champion the work of growers we buy from, and establish a small network of long-term, equitable purchasing relationships.

The Role

We’re looking for a coffee professional to join our team as a Roaster, in a full-time, permanent position. Your role in our small team will be hands-on; setting up and roasting coffee according to our profiles, packing roasted coffee, and shipping or delivering orders to our webshop and wholesale customers. You’ll be involved in a lot of cupping and espresso quality control sessions, sample roasting, and you’ll contribute to green buying decisions from time-to-time. The role also involves a lot of cleaning, pre-weighing, maintenance, record keeping, and organisation.

Who’s The Role For?

This Role Involves:

- Pre-weighing green coffee batches and pre-labelling coffee packaging
- Compiling wholesale orders into daily production schedules
- Roasting coffee to specified profiles on Probat P12 roaster
- Packing and sealing roasted coffee
- Picking, packing, and shipping wholesale orders
- Delivering wholesale orders to customers in Melbourne and Geelong
- Packing and shipping webshop orders using Shopify
- Cleaning of roaster, packing area, green store, cupping room, and toilets
- Conducting weekly roaster preventative maintenance and deep cleaning
- Setting up and participating in cupping and espresso quality control sessions
- Performing weekly inventory checks and updating stock levels
- Tracking and improving roast goal success rates in Cropster
- Placing packaging and supply orders according to par levels
- Researching and distilling information about new coffees being released
- Responding to wholesale, webshop, and co-roasting customer requests
- Staying informed and communicating with colleagues in Slack

**Requirements**:

- Full driver’s license
- Coffee roasting experience preferred, but not essential
- Barista experience preferred, but not essential
- Competency with Google Suite: Mail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Calendar

Particulars
- Compensation at $60,000 - $75,000 p.a. (plus super), dependent on experience
- Full-time, permanent with six month probation period
- Two-stage interview process, plus a practical evaluation (roasting or tasting)
- Start February / March, dependent on availability
