**Primary Responsibilities**

In the role of Principal, Defence, we'll count on you to:

- To lead and manage the successful execution of key defence projects whilst maintaining high levels of design intent and technical excellence. Pursue, win and deliver key defence projects and lead the defence Sector. This role includes a focus on identifying, cultivating, and securing new project opportunities and the ability to win work, and to oversee that work in a senior leadership role.
- All projects will be delivered within budget and to an agreed program to exceed client expectations.
- Developing new and existing relationships with key stakeholders to generate repeat business and build our reputation for design and delivery excellence.
- Leadership of Defence stakeholder user groups, and project briefing, defining project scope, fee development and programme planning
- Reporting project financial status including regular calculation of project cost to complete, identification of variation claims, additional project scope and ongoing delivery efficiencies
- Maintain an awareness of all project variables and ne able to effectively prioritise accordingly throughout the day-to-day and strategic management of the project
- Possess strong communication and negotiation skills to maintain design intent through design, documentation and site delivery stages
- Liaise with external statutory regulatory bodies periodically to ensure certification of building works including, BCA, DDA, etc.
- Manage project team, allocate work and track progress against programme and budgets
- Lead, motivate and mentor the project team members providing regular direction and oversight throughout all stages of the project
- Maintains and establishes strong client relationships by demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and successful delivery.
- Working knowledge of Defence Security requirements and codes
- Business acumen effective communication, change management, coaching and mentoring
- Serve as overall lead by setting vision and direction for implementation of HDR’s strategy to expand and provide services to defence market sector
- Facilitate development and implementation of sector business strategies and operating plans across the firm in coordination with business group leadership, operational leadership, client managers and business class directors
- Perform other duties as needed

**Qualifications**

**Required Qualifications**

You will be able to demonstrate:

- Masters in Architecture
- 12+ years industry experience Architectural design experience with strong Defence knowledge
- Ability to lead and win complex, multidisciplinary transport bids, be client facing and successfully deliver projects through to completion.
- Strong skills in client management, client development and a documented history of growing/leading a practice
- Manages project teams on assigned projects to enable successful delivery of projects (time, cost, quality).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Develops the team through coaching / mentoring of other Architectural team members.
- Strong business skills specifically handling budgets, staff and operational issues
- Strong ability to analyze the marketplace and strategically position HDR
- Knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD and SketchUp
