**What does the business unit do?**
The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) delivers a justice and community safety system that works to build a safer, fairer and stronger Victoria.
Data, Digital and Insights (DDI) focuses on meeting the departments data and digital needs by providing responsive and sustainable services focused on supporting departmental outcomes. The specialist groups within DDI consist of Technology Solutions and Evidence and Insights.
Technology Solutions explores and employs modern technology to enable the department's business to function via the use of modern, appropriate platforms, products and services.
Evidence and Insights leads the DJCS data reporting, analytics and modelling program, outcomes measurement and evaluation services. It includes the Crime Statistics Agency and National Coronial Information System.
**What will the role do?**
The purpose of this role is to:
- Actively champion the adoption of effective and efficient digital technology and information behaviours, practices, systems and skills to ensure the department effectively manages the custodianship, sensitivity, quality, access and discovery of its data, digital and information assets in line with the department's strategic direction, Whole of Victorian Government (WoVG) and legislative requirements.
- Work with people across the department and WoVG to identify needs, blockages, compliance obligations and issues and to develop and implement a departmental data & digital strategy, and supporting solutions, to address these issues.
- Provide guidance for strategic projects and initiatives which improve the data & Digital capacity and capabilities of the department.
- Liaise with the Customer Engagement team and Business Unit stakeholders to develop data & Digital Strategies aligned to the Department's Data & Digital agenda.
**What skills should a Manager, Strategy and Planning have?**
- Demonstrated information management knowledge and expertise - demonstrated knowledge and experience in information management including a thorough understanding of information security and sensitivity, information and data quality, information seeking and usage behaviours, custodianship issues, information architecture, taxonomies and classification.
- Demonstrated understanding of information technology concepts and tools used to support information and knowledge management in a large organisational context.
- Demonstrated project management knowledge and experience - including experience in the use of a project management methodology such as Prince2.
- Previous government experience would be desirable.
- A tertiary qualification in information technology management is desirable.
