These roles are responsible for leading small, high-performing teams that plan, deliver and review expeditioner services and training.

**Who we are**
The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is part of the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. As primary agency for Australia's Antarctic Program (AAP), the AAD is responsible for achieving the Australian Government's Antarctic goals. These goals are to:

- maintain the Antarctic Treaty System and enhance Australia's influence within it
- protect the Antarctic environment
- understand the role of Antarctica in the global climate system
- undertake scientific work of practical, economic and national significance.

The AAD also has responsibility for administering the Australian Antarctic Territory and the Territory of Heard Island and McDonald Islands.

The People and Culture Branch is crucial in supporting our workforce and fostering a positive organisational culture. The branch places significant emphasis on providing comprehensive support for expeditioners, encompassing recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, as well as medical and organisational psychological services, and offboarding. Additionally, the branch delivers essential divisional services spanning media, communication, risk management, and business continuity. The AAD is committed to cultivating a positive, inclusive culture that promotes diversity and equity.

**The Jobs**
There are two positions available within the People & Culture Branch for Assistant Directors.

Assistant Director, Expeditioner Services Section
The focus of this area is recruitment and support of our expeditioners. This includes:

- Team management
- Process review
- Recruitment and assessment processes
- Travel and accommodation
- Onboarding and offboarding
- Performance management
- Extensive internal and external stakeholder liaison.

Assistant Director, Expeditioner Capability and Training Section
The Training and Development section’s key focus is on ensuring expeditioners are trained before they spend time working in Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic. This includes:

- Delivering a complex and multi-disciplinary training program,
- Informed by season planning and reflecting the various technical
- Community-based and government elements that inform a holistic capability framework for the Australian Antarctic Program.

**Duties and responsibilities of the roles**:

- Lead a small team and be part of a work area.
- Collaborate, communicate, leverage and influence relationships to deliver agreed business outcomes.
- Exemplify a high level of resilience and personal integrity, be a team player, and lead through consultation and engagement with stakeholders.
- Oversee financial and procurement processes including tender documentation; manage contracts and budgets.
