**Who we are**
The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water’s Finance Division provides a range of essential advice and services enabling the department to deliver its strategic objectives. Our advice and services cover financial management, the budget process, procurement, travel, property and protective security.

The Property and Protective Security Branch is responsible for enhancing the department’s business capability through the effective management of the department’s property portfolio, property enabling functions, protective security, emergency management, as well as a range of corporate site services and commercial contracts nationally.

The Protective Security Section is responsible for the implementation and management of security systems and services nationally across all the department’s major locations.
The Section delivers the following services (including but not limited to):

- Provision of expert advice on all aspects of physical security.
- Provision and management of all electronic security systems across the portfolio including CCTV, electronic access control systems (EACS), electronic key safes and intruder detection.
- Provision and management of the national contracts to provide security guarding services and after-hours security monitoring and other security services contracts.
- Management of security key systems, locks, safes and containers.
- Project managing security aspects of security upgrades and new construction for departmental infrastructure.
- Assisting with the provision of communication security officer (COMSO) services.

**The Job**
The Assistant Director, Security is responsible for:

- providing expert advice and support on protective security matters to stakeholders
- liaising with stakeholders within the department, external agencies and security agencies on matters relating to the department
- leading a team in the delivery of protective security services
- management of security operations for the department’s facilities in Hobart (and other locations as directed)
- provide oversight of accreditation/certification process for zone 2, 3 and 4 areas
- managing protective security related contracts and services such as security guarding, electronic security maintenance and security consultants
- managing multiple security projects addressing security site assessments, security requirements/guidance on all aspects of physical security, and instructional materials
- undertaking security threat and risk assessments relating to physical security
- conducting security investigation activities as directed.

**What we are looking for**

**Knowledge and experience**
- Demonstrated knowledge and extensive experience working in a protective security and/or risk management environment with the ability to undertake and deliver complex security risk assessments
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Protective Security Policy Framework and ASIO protective security guidelines and their relevance in an APS environment
- Demonstrated knowledge of electronic security systems including CCTV, EACS, intruder detection and electronic key safes
- Demonstrated knowledge and extensive experience working in a protective security/risk management environment in a public sector agency or equivalent
- Experience in leading protective security teams.

**Skills and capabilities**
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Aptitude for relationship building, and the ability to influence and build relationships with senior executives and a network of stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to work in a secure workplace and to handle sensitive matters discreetly
- A desire to resolve complex problems
- Capability managing both variety and repetition in day to day activities, whilst seeking opportunities for continuous improvement
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment consistently
- The ability to work effectively in a small team environment.

**Desirable qualifications**
- Diploma of Security and Risk Management
- Diploma of Government Security
- Certificate IV in Government (Investigations).

**Eligibility and other requirements**

**Citizenship**
- To be eligible for employment with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water you must be an Australian citizen.

**Security Clearance**
**- **This position requires a Negative Vetting Level 2 security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
