**About the team**:
The Ministerial and Cabinet Liaison section is responsible for managing the day to day Cabinet workflow from the department, external departments and Ministers’ offices (MOs). Additionally, the team is responsible for providing services to Ministers offices and the recruitment of Departmental Liaison Officers. The team is almost always working to tight timeframes and team members can be flexibly deployed within the section or branch to support others when required. This promotes learning and development opportunities while ensuring all deadlines are met.

The Ministerial and Cabinet Liaison Section is a dynamic and fast paced environment and anyone looking for an interesting role with the opportunity to lead a team is encouraged to apply. The section is looking for a high performing, flexible individual with an eye for detail and a sense of humour. Experience working with and maintaining positive relationships with high level stakeholders, and a proven ability to manage staff at various levels in a fast paced and high pressure environment would also be highly valued in this role. The role provides an excellent opportunity to gain insight into the Government’s policy agenda, the Cabinet process, key departmental priorities and exposure to Ministerial offices and the Department's Senior Executive. Other key skills include the ability to manage workflow priorities for the team, provide constructive feedback to staff, model sound decision making under pressure, compile reporting and provide clear direction to staff. Prior experience with Ministerial and Cabinet processes is desirable, but not essential.

**What you will do**:
The Assistant Manager will oversee the day to day operations of the Cabinet Liaison Office, including the workflow of Cabinet items between the Ministers Offices and the Department. To achieve this, the Assistant Manager will oversee Cabinet processes and provides support and guidance to the department as required, as well as stakeholder engagement. As the Cabinet Liaison Office is staffed from 8am to 10:30pm some on call work is required. On call hours are shared evenly among the team.

Key tasks for this position include:

- Lead the team of Cabinet Liaison Officers
- Ensure all systems, processes and resources are operating effectively and in accordance with the requirements of the Cabinet Office and the Cabinet Guidelines
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with the ministerial offices and line areas across the department and portfolio
- Support the Manager to mentor and develop team members to create a highly effective and resilient team, and cross skill all team members
- Maintain a positive and productive work environment despite the high pressure nature of the work
- Manage departmental training on cabinet processes and manage staff and departmental enquiries regarding Cabinet related activities, as appropriate
- Assist with stakeholder engagement for Cabinet related matters

**Eligibility**:
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must be Australian Citizens.

**Security Clearance**:
This position requires an NV1 security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

**Notes**:
This recruitment process is being used to fill a non-ongoing EL1 position for 9 months, with the possibility of permanency. A merit pool may be established to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing EL1 vacancies should they become available within 12 months from the date advertised.
