Child Minding Officer

To ensure adequate and appropriate supervision of children utilising the child minding
facilities.
- To generate a safe stimulating environment that meets the individual, emotional, social,
physical and cultural needs of the children attending the centre.

**Key Internal Relationships**:Team Leader, Sales and Wellbeing Officer
**Key External Relationships**:Children, Parents.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise the child minding service.
- To actively participate in activities and develop programs within the child minding facility
through planning, preparation and efficient implementation of the resources available.
- To ensure all necessary precautions are made to keep children safe in their
environment (indoor and outdoor activities).
- To administer First Aid when required.
- To ensure that all children are treated with equality, respect and consideration.
- Ensure all Blue Mountains Leisure Centres services procedures; policies and
guidelines are adhered to.
- To ensure that the Centre is left clean and tidy at the conclusion of each days use.
**Other duties**
- To ensure complience to all business policies and procedures.
- To review and update all work procedures as directed and report on system failures.
- To integrate quality, environmental and safety performance into all all functions and
activities undertaken.
- To continually review and improve work methods where related to this positions work
activities in regard to best practice in environmental, quality and WHS.

**Workplace Health & Safety**
Ensure compliance with WHS obligations and responsibilities as outlined in Councils
policies and procedures and under the relevant WHS legislation. These include but are
not limited to: identifying potentially unsafe situations or work practices and notifying your
Supervisor or Manager (or the Health, Safety Manager/Area Safety Representative);
never performing a task that you believe is dangerous or for which you do not have the
experience, or have not received appropriate instructions and training or where the correct
equipment to carry out the task safely is not available; always work in a safe manner and
in accordance with safety instructions, where applicable; use the work equipment supplied
for the job, in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions), and any personal
protective equipment, which the Council deems necessary and has provided; be safety
aware and report any actions to your line manager which will assist the Council to meet
its legal workplace health and safety obligations.
You have the right to cease or direct cessation of unsafe work. In addition you are required
at all times to comply with Councils Asbestos Management Plan and Policy.
**COMMUNICATION
- The ability to effectively communicate and relay information with both internal and
external customers of the centre.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with all levels of staff, patrons of the centre and
community groups.

**JUDGEMENT & PROBLEM SOLVING
- This position may require the employee to use decisive action and initiatives at short
notice to ensure the safety and well being of Children at the centre.
- Ensure Work Health and Safety matters are reported immediately
**AUTHORITY
- The extent of authority is limited to the supervision of children in the child minding
facility
- Coordination of Child minding volunteers
**SKILL, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS & BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES
- Experience with the needs of 6months -5 year old children.
- Awareness of child safety.
- Commitment to Occupational Health and Safety and Equal Employment Opportunity.
- Ability to develop the planning and implementation of appropriate activities for 6 month
- 5 year old children.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
**ESSENTIAL**
- Child Care Certificate 3 or equivalent.
- Experience in the care of 0-5 years
- Senior First Aid Certificate.
- Current C.P.R Certificate
**DESIRABLE**
- Learn to Swim qualifications
- A working knowledge of quality, environmental and WHS practices
