**The Role**
The Maritime Geospatial (MG) Branch within the Australian Geospatial-Intelligence Organisation (AGO) delivers maritime Geospatial-Intelligence (GEOINT) for Military operations and also manages the Australian Hydrographic Office (AHO) which functions under the Navigation Act 2012 to provide accurate and timely navigation products, services and hydrographic data to mariners using Australian Waters.

The AHO is recruiting to fill one APS 6 Geospatial Manager role within the National Hydrography Directorate. The role will involve management, examination, manipulation and validation of various environmental geospatial themes including hydrographic and oceanographic datasets, to enable spatial data management, analytics and production of end user products. We are seeking people who have qualifications or experience in either surveying, oceanography or spatial sciences to contribute towards achieving our business outcomes.

As a manager, you will build and maintain strong relationships with spatial data providers, stakeholders and users to enable fit-for-purpose geospatial datasets. Managers will be accountable to lead a team, set work priorities, and manage workflow and resources. This position would suit an experienced Geographic Information System (GIS) user, Marine Scientist or a Hydrographic Surveyor with field experience seeking the stability of working in an office environment. Ideally they will be proficient in working with and displaying large data sets inclusive of oceanographic and hydrographic survey data with attention to detail and data management.

Knowledge of oceanographic or hydrographic surveying practices, including data acquisition sensors and equipment, data analysis and processing practices and associated quality assurance measures is advantageous. Experience undertaking hydrographic surveys for navigation safety is beneficial. Training to advance the successful applicant’s geospatial skillset and analytic skills and data management is encouraged and available within the Organisation. The role will be expected to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development for themselves and their team.

This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Agreement (DEA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. **About our Team**
The Australian Hydrographic Office is the Department of Defence’s agency responsible for the publication and distribution of nautical charts and other information required for the safety of ships navigating in Australian waters. The Hydro Scheme Industry Partnership Program (HIPP) is the commercial acquisition program that undertakes focused hydrographic survey activities to contribute to this requirement.

Will possess a strong background in geospatial data analysis which may include skills in:

- Coding for streamlining data processes;
- An understanding of data management principles, including best practice metadata;
- Delivery of geospatial data in a variety of formats and methods;
- Have experience analysing, validating and presenting geospatial data and can use a variety of techniques to determine data quality in relation to national and international standards;
- High attention to detail and readily adapt to enterprise data management systems;
- Use high-level communication skills to build and sustain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the provision of the highest quality validated geospatial data in support of AGO’s functions.
- Be accountable to deliver validated geospatial data that and products that adhere to quality systems, procedures, standards and legislative requirements.
- Prioritise workload and monitor task progress against performance expectation to meet business objectives.
- Build and sustain effective relationships with team members and actively mentor less experienced team members.
- Work collaboratively with local, national and international stakeholders on matters of strategic, national and Defence interest when required.
- Develop expertise in data management and manipulation in relation to use and maintenance of geospatial databases.
- Perform complex geospatial analysis and/or production activities and tasks in support of National and Defence interests.
