$111,441 - $125,705 (plus Super and 10% BDCP)
- Wollongong - NSW
**The Role**
As a leader within the Maritime Data Management Directorate, you are responsible for coordinating advice and development of data policy that contributes to best practice management of the Australian Hydrographic Office’s maritime geospatial data.
You will also engage across the organisation to understand requirements and acquire the best available data that will support the creation of products and services. This involves researching new or alternative sources and liaising with the broader maritime and ocean data communities. To do this, you will need to build and sustain effective relationships with national and international stakeholders who collect and/or use maritime data.
You are expected to manage staff and work with the Data Operations and Data Quality teams to collectively support the goals and objectives of the branch. You will coordinate internal experts to enhance data availability across the Maritime Geospatial Branch. This includes ensuring that the data is fit for purpose through internal quality checks and an understanding of licensing, and security policy and procedures.
The additional payment is a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP) which enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the rate of salary otherwise payable under the Enterprise Agreement (EA) to some or all of the jobs within a critical occupation(s) or discipline within a workplace. Applicants engaged into a BDCP position must consider the following:
- BDCPs provide remuneration in addition to the Defence Enterprise Agreement (EA).
- Should your performance fall beyond requirements or the eligibility criteria not be met, your eligibility for the BDCP may be reviewed and ceased.
- It may also be ceased should you change positions or the requirement for the BDCP is no longer necessary, as determined by Defence.
- Should the BDCP be ceased you will be advised and your BDCP additional payment will cease.
**About our Team**
The Maritime Data Management Directorate manages data collected or received by the Australian Hydrographic Office to meet Australia’s nautical charting obligations under the Navigation Act 2012 (Cth) and provide maritime GEOINT data, products and services to Defence. It also provides strategic and governance direction to the Maritime Geospatial Branch.
The team consists of geospatial data professionals who work on curation, analysis, workflows and dissemination functions to support strategic and operational needs. All data managers work closely with hydrographic surveyors and nautical cartographers to ensure that data is quality assured and suitable for use in products and services.
The data team works in conjunction with the innovation and capability directorates; together we are responsible for providing the technology and data to the organisation. We encourage innovation through collaboration, ongoing training opportunities, and a friendly, professional work environment.
You will have experience coordinating data publication and/or sharing between organisations. You will have an interest in developing a culture of innovation and in encouraging a principled approach to data curation, as well as the curiosity to understand complex data flows and identify opportunities for improvement.
As an innovator, you will be expected to think outside the box and will have opportunities to influence and improve business processes and technical data solutions.
