The Procedure and Legislation Officer is responsible for conducting research and drafting procedural and legislative documents to support senior officers to provide advice about the operations of the Senate. Duties include preparing procedural and parliamentary information as well as providing legislative drafting assistance in response to requests from senators.
As the Procedure and Legislation Officer will be required to liaise directly with senators and their staff, as well as employees in the department to perform their duties, the occupant of the position will have excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail and an ability to work at a high standard.
The Procedure and Legislation Officer will also contribute to the development of procedural resources and information about Senate practice for publication. The occupant of the position may support other project work as required, such as drafting material for visiting parliamentary delegations and for the purposes of the department’s seminar and training program. The occupant of the position will also provide administrative assistance to the office.
