**The opportunity we have available**

The Legislation Liaison Unit (LLU) performs a critical role facilitating the department’s legislation program. The LLU is comprised of non-lawyers and provides specialist advice and procedural support to ensure legislative instruments and bills progress efficiently through Parliament and the Federal Executive Council (ExCo), in accordance with established process requirements outlined in the official handbooks and guidelines.
- **Primary Legislation Team** - Facilitating the lodgement, introduction and passage of bills through Parliament to ensure they meet the procedural requirements, including liaising with policy teams, central agencies, and Parliament House.
- **Subordinate Legislation Team** - Facilitating the submission and/or lodgement of legislative instruments to ensure they meet the procedural requirements before being made, including liaising with policy teams, central agencies, and the Federal Executive Counsel.
- **Legislation Program Governance Team** - Providing coordination support, high-level project management, and reporting to track on the progress of the department’s legislative priorities.

As an APS5 Liaison Officer, you will play a key role in supporting these functions, ensuring compliance with government processes, and working closely with senior stakeholders. This role requires strong stakeholder engagement, analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

**What will you do?**

Depending on placement, as an APS5 Liaison Officer, you will be responsible for:

- Coordinating and reviewing submissions for Parliament or ExCo, ensuring compliance with procedural and legislative requirements.
- Liaising with policy areas, legal teams, and external stakeholders to ensure documentation meets required standards.
- Tracking and managing legislative workflows, maintaining accurate records to ensure transparency and accountability.
- Providing guidance on procedural steps for legislative and parliamentary processes to internal stakeholders, ensuring compliance with established requirements.
- Identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance legislative workflow efficiency.

**Who are we looking for?**
- an understanding of legislation and Government decision-making processes, or the ability to rapidly learn these processes;
- strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret procedural documents such as the handbooks and guidelines identified;
- high-level written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to liaise effectively with senior executives;
- strong organisational skills and the capacity to effectively manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work within deadlines; and
- a proactive and accountable approach to work, with a commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.
