What is the role?

Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Team Leader, Legislation and Policy Team, Legislation and Governance section, ACT Policing, Band 7.

The Legislation and Governance (L&G) section provides executive support service to ACT Policing and the ACT Government, through coordinating and executing various tasks and functions. These include Executive support, governance coordination, legislation and policy development and organisational statistical reporting which all support ACT Policing's delivery of services and accountability to the ACT Government as per the Policing Arrangement and Purchase Agreement.

As a Team Leader within the Legislation and Policy team, you will be instrumental in formulating and coordinating advice to the ACT Policing Executive, ACT Government and senior ACT Policing officers on matters of policy and legislation which focus on high level strategic issues relating to law enforcement in the ACT. The Legislation and Policy team is staffed by a mixture of sworn and professional members to provide a balance of corporate and operational policing knowledge and skills. Applicants who can demonstrate leadership in strategic policy and legislative reform skills in a law enforcement environment will be highly regarded.

What will you do?

As the Team Leader of the Legislation and Policy Team within ACT Policing, your responsibilities include:
Provision of verbal and written legislation and policy advice/communication to members, the ACT Policing Executive and ACT Government relating to law enforcement matters in the ACT.
Demonstrating leadership and developing team members and fulfilling a guiding, mentoring and advisory role.
Driving legislative and policy reform for ACT Policing.
Providing representation on policy or legislation related working groups.
Essential Requirements

A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Desirable Requirements

The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:
Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline i.e. law, policy.
Relevant qualification or extensive experience and knowledge in a related role.
Strong leadership, coaching and mentoring abilities.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
Aptitude for strategic and lateral thinking.
Demonstrated stakeholder management skills and fostering productive working relationships.
Understanding of ACT Government Legislative Assembly process and whole-of-government
