About the Role

ATSICHS FPP supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families to actively participate in child protection processes and decisions that affect their lives. FPP facilitates independent Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander family-led decision-making (ATSIFLDM) processes whereby authority is given to parents, families, and children to solve problems and lead decision-making in a culturally safe space. The ultimate objective of the FPP is to reduce the disproportionate representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people in the statutory child protection system.

**Description**:
Duties

The FPP Specialist aims to work closely with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander children, young people and their families to:

- Give effect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s right to self-determination
- Facilitate ATSIFLDM processes with active and meaningful participation from the whole family.
- Support the family to develop family-based solutions that mitigate risk and provide for the safety, care, protection, and connection of children, whether at home or in care.
- Engage quality support networks, so the safety of our children and young people can be achieved within family.
- Increase knowledge and understanding of child safety processes
- Understand Child Safety’s worries and concerns and keep the child and/or young person at the center of engagement.
- Provide culturally safe, quality, and efficient services.

**Skills and Experiences**:
Required
- Current Bachelor’s Degree, in Social Work, Human Services, Social Science, Health, Allied Health, Youth Work, Community Services, Family Intervention or Criminology with 2 years’ relevant experience in the social services field

OR
- Current Diploma in Community Services, Social Work, Human Services, Child and Family, Allied Health, Youth Work, Child and Family Intervention with 3 years’ relevant experience in social service field

AND

With at least 1 year of the abovementioned experience in a case management role.

**Additional Requirements**:

- Current drivers’ license
- Current and Valid Working with Children’s Card (Blue Card) or be eligible to apply
- Current and Valid National Disability Worker Screening Clearance (Yellow Card) or be eligible to apply
- Current and Valid National Police Check or be eligible to apply
