**The Role**
The Work Health and Safety Advisor leads the internal WHS governance program ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures. The WHS Advisor is integral to fostering a positive and just safety culture. They are the point of contact for internal and external stakeholders on all WHS matters impacting the Systems Program Office.
- Attendance at WHS forums as the Systems Program Office representative, responsible for managing/coordinating action items.
- Auditing and enhancing existing Systems Program Office WHS documentation, ensuring it is contemporary.
- Working both independently and as part of a multi-skilled safety and security team, aligning priorities across geographically dispersed sites.
**About our Team**
Space Domain Awareness and Control Systems Program Office (SDACSPO) organisationally sits in the Space Systems Branch, under Air Defence and Space Systems Division in CASG. The Systems Program Office manages Space Domain Awareness and Control acquisition and in-service capabilities, through effective and timely engagement with local, regional and international enterprise partners and suppliers, consisting of both foreign government and industry. This demands a strong understanding of domestic and international space domain government frameworks and controls.
The Systems Program Office is based in Adelaide, SA, predominantly providing acquisition and sustainment support to capabilities at Harold E Holt Defence Precinct in Exmouth, WA. The Work Health and Safety Advisor will work within the Business Management Unit, supporting Work Health and Safety activities across the Systems Program Office. The Systems Program Office Business Management Unit is led by Director Business Management and includes Project and Program support and Commercial, Security and WHS Advisors. It also contains a Quality Assurance function and Integrated Program managers to manage a broad spectrum of governance across the Systems Program Office.
The team works collaboratively to provide assurance, undertake audits and compliance activities, and report on performance, opportunity, and risk to Australian national interests; ensuring Defence has the workforce, systems, tools, supply chains and infrastructure to support domestic, bilateral and trilateral Space Domain Awareness and Control capabilities. Space and cyber capabilities play a significant role in safeguarding national security, which means their domains are equally as important as the maritime, land and air domains. Capabilities in space are critical enablers of military operations, supporting communications, targeting and situational awareness.
- Developing and implementing internal WHS policies and procedures.
- Working collaboratively with stakeholder and contractors to ensure WHS obligations are met.
- Overseeing WHS Incident response, hazard identification, and risk management.
- Development and delivery of WHS reports, presentations, and training programs.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders on complex sensitive WHS issues.
- Resolve problems using professional expertise, taking the initiative to identify alternative courses of action and implications for WHS activities.
- Providing support to the Security and Visits Manager.
