CSIRO Manufacturing is one of our largest business units, helping Australian businesses develop new products, components, materials and processes that allow Australian manufacturers to be globally competitive and environmentally sustainable. Our research is based on multi-disciplinary scientific and engineering capabilities, and uses world-class infrastructure. As the Research Support Manager (RSM), you will work closely with the Executive Manager - Operations to efficiently assess, plan and manage the Business Unit’s people, physical, and financial resources.
You will bring your experience in project management and research infrastructure management to support the Business Unit’s research activities, and help deliver its strategic goals and initiatives. You will have a good understanding of the lab environment, risk management, and incident-response protocols, and you will play a key role in the implementation of efficient best-practice methodology across the laboratories. This will involve the development and optimisation of systems and processes to ensure that operations are compliant with all relevant guidelines, regulations, and legislation.
We are looking for someone who is proactive and able to help create and implement operational strategies that will allow the Business Unit to use its space and resources most efficiently. The Research Support Manager will be required to interact with research staff on a daily basis and provide guidance and advice on best practice processes. High-level communication skills are a must for this position

**Your duties will include**:
- Supporting processes related to operational planning and performance, including identifying issues and opportunities for improvement across Business Unit operations.
- Providing oversight of Manufacturing occupancy details in SAMS for both lab and office/workstation areas with the objective of developing a BU Site Masterplan for space utilisation that accounts for current and future accommodation requirements.
- Co-ordinating requests and overseeing major capital works projects for the Business Unit, while ensuring critical infrastructure and equipment is effectively maintained.
- Developing and monitoring space utilisation plans across the Clayton and Lindfield sites, and working with the Executive Manager to develop Manufacturing site masterplans.
- Developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, relating to site and infrastructure, including CBIS and precinct partners.
- Providing relevant advice and guidance to staff concerning operational procedures to ensure that these are aligned to regulatory and other defined work practices, as well as developing and monitoring procedures to facilitate these outcomes.

**Salary**: AU$105K - AU$142K pa + up to 15.4% superannuation

**To be considered you will need**:
- Relevant degree or equivalent relevant work experience in conjunction with demonstrated achievement in senior advisory/leadership roles.
- Demonstrated planning, project, and change management skills, and experience at the level of a national business unit.
- Excellent organisational skills with a demonstrated ability to manage competing complex demands, establish or renegotiate priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate openly and effectively, and to build strong relationships with staff, stakeholders, and clients at all levels.
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of risk management, incident response, organisational requirements, policies and procedures, and external regulations.
- To be considered for the higher CSOF6 level, you will also need the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, take initiative, and think laterally & strategically to manage problems and achieve process/operational improvement.
