Welcome Project Ambassador

This document describes your position as a volunteer, student or intern (VSI) at Settlement Services International Limited and its subsidiary entities (SSI Group). Please read and accept the following duties and responsibilities.

The Welcome Project aims to encourage inclusiveness and strengthen a sense of belonging by engaging local residents to act as Ambassadors and Community Support Assistants to plan, organise and conduct community activities to welcome refugees/new arrivals in various parts of Sydney.
The initiative will help refugees/new arrivals to feel welcome and more connected, establish relationships and boost their self-confidence to access and participate in what Sydney can offer. It will also assist the broader Sydney community to increase their understanding of the humanitarian program and refugee needs as well as offer a unique opportunity to engage in an intercultural experience to learn from, and about each other.
Welcoming activities can include social, cultural and recreational activities across Sydney. There are 2 volunteer roles for the Welcome Project - Ambassadors and Community Support Assistants. The role of Ambassadors is to assist in activity coordination for newcomers to attend events, tours and outings; attend and share your interest in Sydney events and activities and create a welcoming, enjoyable experience which encourages intercultural exchange and dialogue. The role of Community Support Assistants is to accompany families and individuals to and from activities to help them navigate and build their independence in the Sydney area and ensure families and individuals can communicate with Ambassadors by providing language support when needed.
