**The Policy Officer plays a key role in providing policy advice across DEECA to embed self-determination across government's policy, strategy, legislative and regulatory work, as well as program design and delivery. This includes as part of the Cabinet process and other briefings. You will also have the opportunity to be involved in reform projects, that change systems and processes to ensure Traditional Owners rights and interests are considered from the outset and engagement occurs earlier, to achieve great outcomes for Traditional Owners and the community as a whole.**
**The position requires policy and analytical skills; critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities; clear and effective communication, including in writing for government; and an ability to influence and work collaboratively with stakeholders - and a flexible and adaptable approach. You will need to have cultural awareness and capability including an understanding of Victoria's Aboriginal Self-Determination policy and agenda.**

**Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications**
- **Cultural capability**: Demonstrated knowledge of policies and legislation relevant to First Peoples rights and interests in Victoria (e.g. Treaty, Self-Determination); demonstrated awareness of self-determination and cultural sensitivity. Experience engaging with First Peoples and Victorian Traditional Owners is an advantage.
- **Cabinet process**: Knowledge of the Cabinet process and experience writing briefing products is an advantage

**This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is 8 Nicholson Street, Melbourne, with hybrid work arrangements available.**
