**Who we are**
The newly formed Nature Positive Integration Division will deliver strategic policy with a sole focus on the environment, providing governance, high-level policy oversight and program delivery. The Division consists of three branches: Regional Planning and Landscapes, Environmental Policy Integration and Natural Heritage Trust.

The Environmental Policy Integration Branch (EPIB) has been established to support the delivery of priority programs of work across the Environment and Water areas of DCCEEW. EPIB’s work includes:

- supporting strategic delivery of priority projects under the Nature Positive Agenda
- supporting governance and engaging with the executives, the Minister and her Office, including tracking and reporting on program success
- Identifying and implementing shared approaches to managing risk across the Agenda, including through capability and engagement support across the Agenda
- shaping national environmental policy settings through Environment Ministers Meetings
- developing, implementing and renewing strategic national policies to protect our biodiversity in collaboration with other jurisdictions
- leading Australia’s international engagement in the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity.

Biodiversity Policy leads development and negotiation of Australian Government positions to pursue Australia’s interests under the Convention of Biological Diversity and the development and implementation of Australia’s national biodiversity strategy and action plan (NBSAP). A key priority for the team is to align Australia’s NBSAP with the GBF, including by agreeing national targets with the states and territories for each of the goals and targets in the GBF. The team is also continuing to engage in a range of international workstreams, including the development of indicators to track global implementation of the GBF.

We are a high-performing team with diverse experience and skills. We work closely with the department’s senior executives and ministerial offices to deliver on the Government’s priorities.

You’ll be welcomed by a supportive team that values diversity and inclusion, has a sense of humour, works hard and helps each other out. We are passionate about our work and always looking for better ways of doing things. This is an exciting opportunity to deliver on some of Australia’s most important policy challenges.

**The Job**
Biodiversity Policy is working to implement outcomes of the new Kunming Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) in addition to other priorities. The GBF is the most significant global agreement on biodiversity in a decade, and will shape global and domestic biodiversity action to 2030. We are looking for innovative, collaborative, and empathetic people who are interested in delivering long lasting environmental outcomes. There are opportunities to work on both international and domestic workstreams.

Duties would include but are not limited to:

- research, analysis and policy advice about issues relating to international and domestic environment and biodiversity policy
- supporting Australia’s participation in international meetings of the Convention on Biological Diversity
- preparing briefing, speeches, correspondence and reports for our ministers and senior executive
- supporting constructive and collaborative relationships with ministers’ offices, other areas of the department, Commonwealth agencies and other key stakeholders
- working as part of a team and contributing to effective team culture.

We are open to discussing flexible working arrangements and new ways of working.

**What we are looking for**

**Knowledge and experience**
We are looking for people with a strong interest in policy who are innovative, collaborative, flexible, and able to deliver.
- experience in policy analysis and development
- experience working in a policy role, including undertaking research and preparing policy advice, briefing material, analytical reporting and working with states and territories
- an understanding of environment policy issues and/or experience with international forums is desirable.
- experience working in an agile environment and being responsive and adaptable to change and uncertainty.

**Skills and capabilities**
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to develop high quality briefing, policy papers and tailor communications to target audiences.
