Banyule City Council is hiring a **Governance and Integrity Coordinator **to provide high level governance advice consistent with relevant legislation and in line with ethical standards and probity expectations across the organisation.

The Governance and Integrity Department enhances governance practices, improves decision-making, and effectively manages critical functions. It addresses statutory functions, strengthens preparedness for elections and caretaker conventions, and streamlines responsibilities to foster staff, councillors, and community confidence in integrity matters.

**About the role**:
The role plays a key leadership role across the organisation and provides high level governance advice consistent with relevant legislation and in line with ethical standards and probity expectations.

The role coordinates the service delivery and operation of the Governance Unit including:

- Council Business, Council meeting processes and Councillor briefings
- Legislative compliance and oversight (Delegations, Authorisations, Freedom of Information, Council General Elections, Public Interest Disclosures, Conflicts of Interest, Council elections)
- Councillor request management and support
- Public Transparency obligations, Council’s transparency registers and Personal Interest Return procedures

Other key responsibilities include:

- Attendance at Ordinary and Special meetings of Council and Councillor briefings
- Undertake governance and integrity policy development and review, and prepare written reports to Council on key governance and integrity matters
- Coordinate the development and preparation of submissions and responses to recommendations contained in internal and external audit reports
- Assist in the development and facilitation of a training and development program to educate and build staff capacity on governance and integrity.
- Act as Council’s Public Interest Disclosure (PID) Officer and support the Manager Governance and Integrity in their capacity as Public Interest Disclosure Coordinator in the management of PIDs.
- This temporary full-time role supports a back fill for a maternity leave cover. Overtime will be required on some Mondays for council meetings and councillor briefings. _

**Skills, experience, and certificates**:

- Relevant tertiary qualifications in local government, management, legal profession or related discipline - postgraduate qualifications in management.
- Extensive experience in a governance-related field in the public or private sectors.
- Demonstrated experience in leading, managing and developing staff.
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills and the ability to interpret legislation and complex information in particular the Local Government Act 2020.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement plans, policies and procedures in areas of expertise.
- Well-developed project management skills and continuous improvement.
- Superior interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to build strong relationships and influence key stakeholders.
- A sound understanding of Council meeting procedures and good governance practices.

**Mandatory Pre-employment screenings**:

- Victorian Driver Licence.
