**The Role**
As an Assistant Director, you play a critical role in the leadership and management of APS people policy and employment conditions reform and advice for the Department of Defence.
Key responsibilities of these roles include:
- Lead, plan and manage reform and business-as-usual activities relating to APS conditions of employment.
- Develop and provide evidence based policy solutions including both verbal and written recommendations on conditions of employment.
- Regularly engage with a wide variety of stakeholders in order to achieve conditions of employment policy outcomes.=
- Using judgement, knowledge and leadership, provide pragmatic and innovative policy and guidance advice.
- Manage a small team and contribute to outcomes of the greater APS Workplace Relations team, including representing at a range of internal and external forums.
- Prepare high-level committee papers and expert advice for senior leadership.
- Promoting a positive, safe, inclusive and diverse culture.

**About our Team**
The APS Workplace Relations (APSWR) team within the Defence People Group provide contemporary workplace and industrial relations expertise, including; people policy, remuneration and employment conditions and dispute management for Defence APS employees.
APSWR comprises teams focusing on; Employment, Conditions, Remuneration, Stakeholder Engagement and Disputes. The team is responsible for bargaining and implementing the Department’s enterprise agreement.
You will be able to successfully lead a team of diverse people to achieve timely outcomes that are beneficial to both Defence and Government. Your leadership skills will promote and enhance our strengths-based team culture.
You will have a curious mindset and be able to pragmatically analyse and make recommendations on a vast array of conditions of employment problems using expert judgement. A good understanding of legislative frameworks, government decision-making processes and Defence’s strategic objectives will support you in achieving outcomes.
You will be flexible to change and be able to work with and manage stakeholder relationships to seek positive outcomes for your team, Defence People Group and Defence.
