APRA is seeking a Head of Risk Culture to join the GCRA function within our Cross-Industry Insights and Data Division.

The GCRA team provides specialist risk expertise and advice to APRA’s supervisory teams in relation to governance, risk culture, remuneration and accountability practices.

The Head of Risk Culture role provides a unique opportunity to drive APRA’s program of work to support the uplift of risk culture across the financial services sector.

This will build on our existing initiatives which includes APRA’s Risk Culture Survey, Risk Culture 10 Dimensions framework, GCRA assessments, non-financial risk metrics, and Sustainable Transformation toolkit.

You will:

- lead a team of Risk Culture Specialists who undertake a variety of initiatives to support the uplift of risk culture understanding and practices across the industry;
- formulate strategies and initiatives to further evolve APRA’s work on risk culture;
- oversee the planning and execution of the next phase of APRA’s Risk Culture Survey which to date has surveyed over 150,000 employees at ~60 entities;
- champion and further evolve APRA’s risk culture frameworks and tools including the Risk Culture 10 Dimensions, Sustainable Transformation Framework, Risk Culture Survey, and GCRA assessment methodology;
- continue to innovate in the domain of risk culture, building on the team’s work on natural language processing and non-financial risk metrics, including unobtrusive indicators of risk culture;oversee and manage the roll-out of training, advice and internal/external communications in relation to risk culture;
- attend meetings with senior leaders of regulated entities and provide feedback on their risk culture practices;
- keep abreast of relevant regulatory and technical developments, both locally and internationally, and maintain APRA’s position as a thought leader in relation to risk culture;
- contribute to working groups and initiatives with international peers.

You are someone with:

- extensive experience in risk culture, preferably within the financial services sector;
- the ability to think strategically in relation to risk culture, including how APRA’s work in this area can evolve;
- strong stakeholder engagement skills, with experience of managing senior stakeholders internally and externally;
- excellent analytical and problem-solving ability along with strong written and verbal communication skills;
- robust quantitative and qualitative data analysis experience in relation to risk culture;
- experience of how financial institutions operate, the key risks they face and how risks are managed;
- experience in people management and leading engaged, high performing teams.
