The opportunity
The Head of Strategic Risk is a newly created senior role in QBE’s Group Risk function with an important remit reviewing and challenging the business at an executive level on divisional plans and business unit performance reviews.
This is a key senior opportunity with a global remit, identifying material risks associated with business performance and challenging them with QBE’s leaders. Reporting to the Group Chief Enterprise Risk Officer, the Head of Strategic Risk will work closely with the Divisional Chief Risk Officers, Divisional Chief Executive Officers as well as the Group Head of Financial Performance & Analytics. It is also a role of influence with the wider Group and Divisional Cell Owners, Finance and Risk teams.
Your new role
Key to success in the Head of Strategic Risk role is identifying, quantifying, and assessing mitigants of risks that affects QBE’s business strategy, strategic objectives, and strategy execution, and communicating these back to the business.
Main accountabilities include:
- Own and drive the Group-wide stress and scenario testing program of work and provide oversight of the Strategic Risk dimension of the Group’s Risk Appetite.- Prepare reports and briefings for Board and senior management, enabling the Board to form a view of the management of the Group’s strategic risk.- Be accountable for regular review of the Group and divisional business plan and the Group Chief Risk Officer attestation process.- Provide review and challenge in the annual Cell Review sessions as the key second line risk representative.- Engage, inform & influence QBE Executives and other key stakeholder to ensure QBE’s strategic risk is managed to regulatory & QBE’s requirements.- Own and drive the CRO review of the Group Business Plan (including half yearly health check)- Build strong relationships globally to enable a collaborative and transparent relationship stakeholders and business partners
About you
This is an opportunity for an internal risk, finance and/or underwriting professional to step into a senior leadership role operating at a strategic leadership level. You will have a deep understanding of insurance, and be comfortable engaging and influencing across a spectrum of senior stakeholders globally.
Ideal skills & experience:
- Leadership skills - able to lead, inspire and influence groups- Excellent influencing and negotiation skills, specifically with senior stakeholders- High personal responsibility in delivering sustainable outcomes- Strong project management skills- Well nurtured Insurance financial analysis capability- Able to contribute to the development of strategy- Ability to analyse and use data for decision making - strong numeracy and analytical skills
